“There are two types of courage in this world. One demands that we jump into action with our armor on. The other demands that we strip ourselves of naked and surrender. Bravery is an interesting thing.”-Jeff Brown
As a counsellor there is one phrase, I will not say to you unless I have the lived experience, the phrase is I understand. There are many things I have not experienced, but I do understand the sheer bravery it takes to show up and be vulnerable in the presence of a complete stranger. There are many times in my life I have been supported by a counsellor and I am a passionate advocate for having a safe, non-judgmental space where we can be truly ourselves.
Who I am outside the four walls of my office is who I am with my clients. I am owner and counsellor at Imperfectionistherapy, however first and foremost I am simply human. I was born and raised in India where I lived for the first 25 years before moving to Brisbane to pursue my master's in counselling. In addition to counselling, I have a Master of Science in Psychology (Non-practicing) and a Diploma in Creative Writing.

MY JOURNEY OF HEALING

Late into my 20's I realized I was stuck in a deprivation mindset, feeling trapped and out of control. This was reflected in my outward behaviors and falling into being a people pleaser, struggling to say no, feeling exhausted, anxious and emotionally dysregulated.
I am passionate about finding natural remedies to promote my mental well—being and help stretch my nervous system. For a year I tried naturopathy, kinesiology, reiki, crystals and yoga to regain balance. Like my clients I feel empowered to engage in regular counselling which has helped me to identify my self-limiting beliefs and been the catalyst for my transition from employee to small business owner in early 2022.
Gratitude, journaling, affirmation and grounding are tools I use personally and professionally to guide my practice and help create a renewed sense of purpose. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with friends eating churros (huge fan!), watching Netflix, reading autobiography, sending memes and listening to music including my favorite Sir Elton John!

BEING A STRONG WOMAN DOES NOT MAKE YOU A DIFFICULT INDIVIDUAL. IT JUST MEANS THAT YOU KNOW YOUR OWN WORTH.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Since graduation I have worked in the field of counselling supporting men, women and children providing counselling and psychological first aid. As resident counsellor for a private practice I travelled across Queensland working in schools, hospitals and government agencies to provide on-site support. My team supported victims of bushfires and flooding around rural north Queensland and New South Wales. Like many others 2020 was a difficult year and I lost my full-time job, my home and financial security. I am grateful to have had family where I lived until I landed a position as a Behavior practitioner. There have been many challenges in the past years however I have learned to accept every breakdown is a breakthrough in disguise.
I spent three years supporting NDIS participants advocating for a decrease in the use of restrictive practices and increasing overall well-being and quality of life. Last year, I was called to home to my passion, empowering women to launch into deeper healing, regulating their emotions and breaking free of people pleasing and self-sacrifice.
In the past year I started my own practice, opened in clinic in West-Burleigh and launched an online 4-week trauma healing workshop for women. I love to keep going and am always looking for new ways to keep on growing and healing. It would be my honor and privilege to work with you! If you want to know more book an appointment today. Can't wait to meet you.
